What an absolute mole of a job this turned out to be! I'm almost done, I'll finish up (hopefully) in the morning. Getting that C4 out was a bastard, along with some muppet selling me the wrong flywheel bolts and the trans jack not working properly or at all sometimes. To their credit the owners fixed it ASAP. So much fiddly shit and stuffing around, at least it is out now:

And the toploader in. This better be worth it! So all I've got left to do now is:

    -Fill the 'box with oil
-jury-rig the speedo cable somehow so it doesn't hang down (auto and manual speedo cables are different lengths)
    -fit the manual pedals
    -tighten up the engine mounts
-fill the clutch reservoir and bleed the system
    -do a skid

Knowing my luck Murphy will throw a spanner in the works again, most likely with the pedals or oil will piss out from somewhere, but the hard work (and I mean hard) has been done. The 3/4 shift rod fouls on the side of the gearbox a bit so that is an issue going forward, the speedo cable will need to be addressed in due course. Plus I can see from being under the car for quite a bit this week it will need new uni joints. Here is the new assembly sans gearbox bolted up to the car. You can see the new shifter in its rightful spot too

LOL I didnt do a skid but did have some brown pants moments when standing on it a 70km/h and the bastard wanted to skip sideways and the diff ratio is 2.75 too!!

Still some things to address though. Clutch pedal rod is way too short. Gotta get a manual trans speedo cable, and the output shaft seal leaks quite a bit.

Oh, and I have to buy a new reverse light loom because I accidentally sandwiched the trans safety switch loop wire between the gearbox and bellhousing and fucked it

So in terms of the repro shifter, it is a great bit of gear, shifts very nicely with no vagueness (just like a bought one lol) and I'm glad I got it. However I am rating it 4 stars out of 5 because the 3/4 shift rod rubs against the side of the gearbox and a couple of the shift tabs didnt press cleanly onto the selector posts. For $700 plus freight it should be a 100% spot on fit.

Right, I need to piss this automatic choke off, fucking shitful thing is annoying the shit out of me, you stop the engine for like 2 minutes and when you start it again it revs its tits off. Trouble is the ripoff shops over east charge up the arse for XW and XY choke knobs and cables

Don't run a choke at all mate - it's not like you are using it as a daily in the middle of winter ?
