The BBL is a nice distraction (and I quite like going to those games) but I saw more of the Sydney Swans last year than I did Cricket.

The BBL will die quickly if Channel 9 get their claws into it. The reason the BBL is good to watch is because of the commentators. I couldn't imagine the kiddies watching the BBL if the Channel 9 guys were in charge - they are woeful (and it's no reason that so many people mute the TV and put on the ABC). They need to put a broom through their TV guys and start again. The only one worth keeping is Bill Lawry.
Understand mate, I honestly haven't given BBL the benefit thats how sick I got of the game.
Even hearing Mark Taylor slurring fujitsu makes me want to cringe today - I can't stand his voice for starters.
The game going so commercial over the years now has blown it right out of my mind.
As for C9 commentators, its very hard to replace legends/originals such as Richie god bless him, Tony G, Tangles etcetc, Bill is the last bastion for me and Heals is ok, the rest well.....
Gawd mate, don't know how you can stomach the swans but being a member I suppose you got to get your benefits.

Last year was great. This year not so much... I'll still go and watch - the Mrs uses it to socialise and I can sink a few (full strength) beers with a mate and not worry about getting in trouble.

Channel 9 are in between a rock and a hard place. The Ashes this year will be their cash cow to pay for their outlay but I am not nearly as interested if we are playing India or South Africa or any of the second string sides. Pay TV has not helped especially as there is Cricket on basically every day on Foxtel. I still don't think Channel 9 will do any good with the BBL if they get it. On Ten you get full HD, lots of colours (which look great on that full HD TV you have on the wall at home) interesting commentators, and a game that is all over in a couple of hours.

If Foxtel get the Cricket, it will be like it is for the AFL, and NRL - the game will be broadcast on both mediums - and hopefully Foxtel have their own commentators - Sorry mate, I can't even stand Healey.

It is a lot of dosh for roughly 4 mths of cricket on nine. $25mill a mth. Test, one day and some one day domestic cricket. For nine to really get value for money they need to show more cricket but as foxsteal own those rights there's no chance. As a cricket fan the more I can watch the better, I watch it all. I think test cricket is fine in terms of people watching it live or at home, but how does nine make money on broadcasting it. the new day night test matches help bring in more people but in saying that no other country can come close to aus v eng games. unfortunately thats state of play, foxsteal have the money, the network. It sucked when v8 left fta n it will suck even more if cricket leaves fta, these sports have all been apart of Aussies kids child Hood n should continue that way but no business would continue operating at those losses

    hey its a cricket thread.
So, wtf lol.....says it all don't it.
Smith $200k that Banga bowler on $80k was the headline this morn.
This game has lost the plot just as Union did/has.
All I'll say at least these games have some form of International bearing - whereas gayfl has a lot to answer for imo, so much money invested that could be better spent elsewhere

if the players concentrated more on their game than their paypackets, maybe they wouldnt lose to Bangladesh?
As for AFL mate, it puts more bums on seats in a week than NRL does all season
THere is plenty of relevance to Australians in AFL
Not everything has to be international you know

Its like Supercars trying to take our V8's overseas, that worked didnt it? haha

Any pro players/group have a right to more when your governed by mis handling ivory towers be it any sport mind you.
I agree, in the mean time a pro needs to focus on their payed job.
The point re gafl is not that it gets more bums on seats be it nrl/aru for eg but that too much corporate dollars are squandered purely due to cable/fox contracts at the expense of other sports suffering down to grass roots where its needed to encourage future Youth development.
The numbers are far larger for kids doing other sports in the big picture incl Norms fav basketball.
gafl play dirty to stifle any sport gaining traction in this small country therefore were getting weaker in sports that do have more exposure outside instead of insular concentration. They are worried of any sport and No the relevance is more so at the bottom end of our nation and the minority across.
Melb papers alone are just as the abc and their lefty down your throat politics, crap journalism.
One part of immigration ongoing I'm all for - in time the egg ball will slowly lose its commercial grip .
