OCT 31, 2017 | FORD MOTOR COMPANY PRESS RELEASE
FIVE-POINT OMG! FORD PERFORMANCE, ROUSH DEVELOP NEW 700-HP, 5.0-LITER V8 SUPERCHARGER FOR 2018 MUSTANG GT AND F-150

DEARBORN – A storied history in powertrain development between Ford Performance and Roush Performance continues with a new state-of-the-art supercharger that peaks at 700 horsepower for the new V8-powered 2018 Mustang GT.

The supercharger kit is specially designed to work with the 5.0-liter V8’s new port and direct injection fuel system. The Mustang GT version also offers 610 lb.-ft. of torque at 12 psi of boost on 93 octane fuel for either manual or automatic transmission. When fitted to a 2018 F-150, it provides 640 horsepower and 600 lb.-ft.

The kit comes with all installation hardware and an exclusive performance calibration.

Ford Performance and Roush, with a successful working relationship that goes back more than two decades, are the foremost experts on Ford powertrains. This new supercharger kit is backed by a limited warranty and the vast support network of Ford Motor Company and Roush. The installation of this kit does not void new vehicle warranties.

“Ford and Roush have teamed up on performance for years on and off the track,” said Doug White, Global Ford Performance Parts Manager. “This new supercharger is another great example of our innovation in performance, greatly improving horsepower and torque so people can enjoy two of our most iconic vehicles even more."

“Our teams collaborated to create the most highly engineered, tested and performing supercharger kit on the market,” said Jack Roush, chairman, board of directors, Roush Performance. “The combination of the 2018 5.0-liter engine and our all-new, fully integrated 2650 supercharger system yields simply incredible, no-compromise performance.”

The new Ford Performance supercharger kit will be available in early 2018 through Ford dealers, Ford Performance Warehouse Distributors and Roush Performance dealers. Additional information can be found at FordPerformanceParts.com.

    So they've done it.

A kit specifically engineered and designed to work with the new engine, and with Ford Warranty.

wonder if that kit will translate onto our cars in the same way?

Early days yet without any official details on what spec our MY18's will have but with potentially PP2 and now this kit available it pretty much caters to all but the extreme modders.

1 point i noted was it comes with a pre set tune calibration.

I like this idea because it means the tune has been properly tested and developed and will likely work to a "safe" number.

It may also address all the issues people have had with drivability of aftermarket kits with custom tunes.

I have grave concerns this wont be offered here. I think the issues Ford Aust have won't go away any time soon. What we need to be reading with these US developed kits is that they have been designed for global consumption. The mustang is but these stand alone kits don't seem to be sent through the same qualifiers, the hint in this being Roush developed.

I don't want to be the wet blanket but I remain suspicious

    Valid points.

I could be wrong but this kit goes further then previous FP/Roush kits in that its specifically designed for an engineered element of the new engine and comes with a specific tune calibration.

I don't think this has been done before as well as full warranty which gives me hope it might translate across the pacific.

Oh I agree its specific to the new gen coyote but what we don't know if its been tested for our noise, our emissions and in doing so our durability.

From the research I have been doing in my forum absence, anything that comes from Ford performance doesn't appear to be going through Fords durability testing or at least to the same degree.

They too are taking a short cut otherwise if you think about it, if it was as simple for Ford to stick a supercharger on a GT mustang as a dealer fit option then why not bring a factory model to market with it?

The way it works in the US isn't clear especially when it comes to these kits where if you read the fine print in some cases it suggests any warranty is covered only in the US. Out here that would mean it would be important to deal with a Ford Performance agent like Herrod or Tickford.

The other issue of concern is so far Ford Performance have played hard ball with their agents and maintained a hands off policy with tunes.

As it stands today you can buy a Ford performance Roush kit with the current car and it too comes with a dedicated tune. Problem is its shit. Now Rob can obviously do his own tune but the moment he does, he is on his own.

The other thing that I am curious about is what adding that much weigh up front does to crash testing. Ford very sensitively retested the MY 18 with these electronic crash avoidance systems. My understanding is a GT500 would have to go through the complete Ford battery of validation. I don't think these kits are.
History is a statement, the future is a question.

Yeah when you think about all that it kind of put it back into perspective.

I can't help but defer back to the current kits and strong undertones of discontent with the tunes and drivability issues of Blown Coyote's.

People who have lived with a Miami and driven a supercharged Coyote magnify those comments..

Not surprising when you dissect the scenario and see Miami has been engineered to be a blown engine, with reduced compression ratio and bespoke OEM level tune.

In contrast these kits are still bolting on forced induction to an engine specifically designed and optimised to be naturally aspirated.

I'm not sure they'll ever get that OE feel from an environment compromised in that way.

For me, as it stands based on consumer feedback id rather a Mustang with a 400kw Miami over a 500kw supercharged Coyote, or simply just leave it Naturally Aspirated because at the end of the day I value every day drivability over bulk top end power.

The good in this news is that the new engine has been supercharged and we did wonder what the high compression might mean there.

I haven't heard a good word for any supercharged Mustang other than perhaps Robs personal tunes. The Ford performance ones, Harrop, KPM all have drivability issues. Not sure about Mustang Motorsport.

I wouldn't supercharge a mustang at the moment myself.

What we really need to be hear is from Ford Aust to see what we get spec wise

I'll believe it when I see anything as this in our showrooms, then I would consider stepping into one, same goes for PP2 if ever.

    Looks more aftermarket than factory.

My money will be on the new revised design Whipple 3L supercharger. Mirrors our own supercharge Harrop/FPV manifold. except it comes with an intercooler. something that we didn't get to see happen.

Comes with its own software tuning cutting the middle man Herrod.
