Thread: Sprint owners discussion

  1. #1481
    Bit quiet in here nowadays.

I've always struggled for traction in my Sprint 6 and have posted here about it a few times.

Most times, from a standstill, it would wheelspin, traction control would intervene and then it would change up early, around 4,000rpm. Very frustrating not being able to extract the best from the car. This is with warm tyres, on decent roads, with the right tyre pressures and plenty of meat on the p zero's.

I recently took mine in for a wheel alignment at a reputable shop.

A bunch of smaller changes were made to get the alignment within spec for the sprints.

But from factory the rear passenger had 4.0mm of toe, and the rear drivers 2.0mm.

After having this corrected (and having the rear wheels pointed in roughly the same direction!), the car now puts power down much more effectively.

Most times from a standstill it will now use all of the available RPM before changing up, so its a much quicker sprinter (see what I did there?)

Also puts power down better in other scenarios too.

So if you've got lots of traction problems with your sprint or late model Falcon, you'd do worse than to get your alignment checked as a starting point.

Most times at stand still, been getting set for a pass and you know, prepped a water box area ? lol.....
    Interesting on the outcome.
How was your tyre wear looking ?

I ask this because I check mine every wash and I find my wear is spot on barring the tread depth about gone.

I'm only at 5,000kms, and tyre wear looks good so far.

I got a service email from the dealer the other day.
I suppose being over a year old their system spits it out to customers.
I changed the oil and filter @ 6k....I've asked via email what does this service involve but have had no answer to date but I've gone ahead and booked it in for next Monday.
Does anyone have the info what the service involves ?

I'm not fussed changing the oil/filter again but I'll supply it.
Do I get the diff oil done ? I've read elsewhere many have already changed theirs is it really necessary ? and anything else ?

Did you get the dealer to do a log book service at 6,000 kms or did you do it yourself.

To keep the warranty valid the car must either be serviced every 15,000 km or 12 months which ever comes sooner. It can be done anywhere as long as the books stamped by a qualified mechanic and the service is done as per the schedule.

I got it done at my friends workshop - he can stamp the book no worries.
So yer being over a year old service is due - @9000 clicks.
I'm fine with taking it back to Ford for its 1st "official" service so to speak but if its an entire rip off as you say I'll get my mate to service it from then on verified by his stamp on the book.
I just wanted to know what this service actually involves but I suppose the usual as in the past, check fluids etc and change if approved by owner. Check brakes yaddayaddayadda check torquing of this and that.
I was more curious regards the diff oil - I've read elsewhere owners have changed it already due to some reports of whining blahblah.
Anyone hear or confirm ? I guess I'll just ask to get it changed for the heck.

15,000 or 12 months is a minor service and the cost on a Sprint 8 is $370.

For that you get a full inspection, oil and filter, free loan car and free 12 months road side assistance.

You will also get a free sync 2 map upgrade if there is one available. My Sprint got an upgrade but it was one of the early ones.

Ah good, I suspected a full check up, I suppose I'll let them rip me off with the filter and oil just this time.
    I'm time poor at present.
Had free road assist for the 1st year already - are you sure of this on the 2nd year ?
Ah yer, forgot about Sync upgrade, hardly use it so thanks but I'll make sure of the upgrade.

Yes the free road side assistance is one of their big selling points.
