My source in Dearborn says that Ford had salaried buy-outs available and so many people signed up,
they had to hire an outside company to come in and interview people to find out why so many
people were unhappy and wanted to leave. They then cancelled all the buyouts and now
    everybody is even more unhappy.

More news surfacing that suppliers to Fusion have been notified of the updated 2020 models cancellation.

It does appear to be specific to two US plants, but comes on the back of some really bad numbers for fusion in the states.

One article also stipulates the addition of a sports, performance version hasn’t halted the sales slide.

In other news Ford love trucks, and more and more people are embracing them.
History is a statement, the future is a question.

    Exactly so Ian,
when you look at sales breakdown 2017 Vs 2016, Ford US sold about 100K less cars this year
that's down to about 290K out of 2.5 million vehicles or about 23% of sales.

Word was that the cancelled Fusion/Mondeo was a heavy evolution of CD4, so makes me wonder if
Ford will continue with existing CD4 Fusion/Mondeo with minor MCEs until sales really fade away.
I think Mondeo was lucky to get 55K sales in EU20 in 2017, savng grace is that it's now built along
with five other vehicles at Valencia, Spain.

Sedans everywhere are in decline. That segment will disappear. Cars will either be eco slippery hatch or SUV/ute

Edit: The difficulty for Mustang is has relied on cars to give componentry volumes. I'm talking engines/trans diffs. 10 speed is cool, but the SUV version would be much heavier than mustang requires, adds cost weight etc. Less and less sedans mean less ability to spread R &D
The problem with society today, is that nobody drinks from the skulls of their enemies anymore.

    Yep.

Sedan sales have been erroded away to leave it as a Luxury/Performance platform, with a smattering of asian FWD products as Fleet taxi's.

The Euro's are still vibrant and actively developing this segment as such, but the US manfaturers are all but dead in this space.

Mustang is Fords lowest volume regular production platform.....

    I'll leave it at that.

But mustang would have high profit per unit relative to other models.

    Maybe?

Equally much lower numbers of units to spread development amortization over too.

    A bit of perspective,
Around 450K of Mustangs have been produced on S550 and sold in the first three years.
The clever part about Ford car and SUV construction is the standardized build process,
components shared with other vehciels or near design variants, power train and electrical
systems from F150 or cars and SUVs...

A very reliable source has told BON that two hand built RWD Unitary SUVs emerged form
Dearborn prototype last week..NG Explorer channeling its inner Territory?

OOOO I love Exploders. That would definitely make the list. Until they price it at $120K that is.

Like Elks I like the current Exploder design, would be great here as long as price was competitive.
If they stick coming to market as they have of late - pricing above long time established competitors its a long walk for volumes.

I just don't get their constant reliance on Nth America to everything, they can't keep thinking this way.
Exports would really help them overall in the big picture, yes it costs to implement this sosososo, the euros/japs/koreans can and get good market penetration why can't Ford do the same.
