Was looking forwardto the 12 hour race, but was left disappointed. Way to many safety cars, and way too many class cars for my liking. Accident at the end of the race and the race declared was pretty much sums up the race.

Yep that is about it for me too. It was too long and too much nanny state OHS.

I wonder how a genuine "Bathurst 1000" would go with real production cars on real road tyres with stock brakes etc.
Maybe a roll cage just in case but apart from that "run it as per the showroom".
Of course the rule "Must have sold at least 200 of them for road use in the previous 12 months" will get rid of the "road registered race cars" and bring it back to they way it was in the muscle car era.

I can understand the last few posts.
I do admire these cars and as mentioned I only picked up bits when I had 5mins - so high tech and so different and I expect in front of the TV full on would be challenging at this stage.
I'd sooner be there live so next year I'll go up for the Sat or Sunday for live would be alright I guess.
Was talking to someone today and we did discuss this regards our drivers, got to admire them sitting opposite side, judging the track would seem strange but most adapt so well and the tech they must feel like they are in the 2050 at this stage to a Supercar.

I approached the 12hr from a different perspective.

I wasn't following any particular team or car, except maybe for the safety car...

I wasnt even expecting too much actual head to head racing.

What i did marvel at was the manufacturers exploiting their technology and engineering.

That to me is what the 12hr is about, showcasing automotive engineering excellence more than 10/10th's racing.

    Agree Norm.
    Its different.
Some need a connection and get that.
I've always liked the Porsche Cup for eg for I've admired that marque since the bug eyed front early days and their racing is so different to what were used to V8's whereas I recall Perko in another thread the other day never connecting with that marque - thats cool I get that.
The euro cars are not robust as we got used to (then again supercars today are not as happy receiving knocks nowadays) with our series past and present so the racing is different but yes it has more manufacturers which is the plus.

I didnt follow anyone / team either
just found it hard to follow who was where,
As for the manufacturers technology, these cars are urpose built race cars, far from their road going cousins

No I didnt go into the telecast following anyone or team. Maybe a preference for Chaz and a Whincup crash. Would settle for a Giz highlight as well.

So I guess that takes a fair bit of emotion and attachment out straight up.

The cars are great. Seeing them in the pits or paddock is like Lygon St and enduro suit them because not enough has been done on parity to be close racing and that’s where the problems start.
History is a statement, the future is a question.

So, overall its another subject that is challenging our past feelings/life experiences that times are a changing soso much - especially in the motor industry due to technology/green aspect etc...looking ahead.
Its a struggle trying to connect at this stage.
Has there been a Team Australia type entrant in a top end marque ?
Like for eg Holden did with Brock and the morphed out Monaro but a proper Audi/Bimmer/whatever that is full on Aussie 2car team through and through - we have the people capable behind the scenes and the drivers.
This would get our own juices flowing with far more interest like the Marc effort.
