I am struggling with the looks of this car overall. The Focus and the new Escape starting to look more generic.

No thing worse but it has lost that edgy look. It is like saying that the new Corolla is nothing worse than anything else in the market.

It's not so much generic but a design philosophy centered around focusing on the smaller details then places them in a 'controlled environment' where they stand out. That's why the overall body shape is conservative in its design approach, but the smaller details in the front fascia and headlamps are significant. Audi is the market leader at this.

If the corolla had a model with focus st performance I’d be looking very seriously. I love the look of the new corollas. They’re only a decent suspension height and wheels away from being s stunner.

Yeh that probably wasn't a good example. I do like the current styling on it. Funny that it does harp back to a quote I remember reading about Toyota design about 3-4 years ago and where they wanted to be. I remember them saying that they wanted to get some more "soul" back to their designs so people bought them because of styling as well as reliability. Maybe this is the start of that thought process filtering down. I just look at the Focus now and I don't feel a connection, whereas previous models they stood out for me. They would be something I would have in my driveway. This one not so much.
