    DJRTP engine breach discussion

I have had a lot of trouble with trying to do videos.

The first couple of versions of this were way better than this version. As such this is more a work in progress. The software has a watermark for example because I want to use it before committing to purchase the licence.

I ended up doing this is a hurry and things that probably shouldn't be in shot are. So ignore those few things and if you want have a listen.

Once we get sorted with new recording gear there will be more to come.

History is a statement, the future is a question.

    Great breakdown and analysis Ian.

Have you considered using screen recording software instead of recording the iPad? This will allow you to record audio while the viewer is seeing exactly what's on your laptop screen. You can then use your pointer to highlight things you want to bring viewers attension to. There are many paid and free versions of software available which are apparently easy to use.

I have issue with the fact djrtp were able to be penalised for the valve lift with no consideration for why or how the valve lift had gone out of spec.

To take that logic to the nth degree, imagine Scotty was doing the shootout, had a record lap and as he crossed the line his engine basically explodes dropping its innards all over the track.
Because he wins shootout his car get checked, and is found to be underweight. (Because half of his v8 is still on Conrod)
Bam, penalised for an underweight racecar...

cue the peanut gallery screaming ‘cheats! DQ them!! They bought pole!!!

Obviously that’s a very far fetched example but that is basically what they are saying.
It doesn’t matter how a breach happens, just that it’s a breach.

For a sport that has so much money, time and resources invested it just beggars belief that we have such an antiquated line of thinking.

Would love to be a fly on the wall watching Roger Penske’s reaction to all this.

Exactly why I posed a question about Whincups engine at Bathurst in 2017 when it had a valvetrain failure. Can Supercars say with certainty that while broken the engine never exceeded the valve lift parameters - if not why were they not Dq'ed.

Doesn't matter when it happened, how, or why, if it exceeded the parameters it's a disqualification offense.

For anyone interested, listen to the latest loud pedal podcast featuring Ryan Story, it's a great listen.

You got to get that video out there. Edited or not. Its long but your approach leaves nothing I can think of left on the table, other than irrational accusations.

If I was being honest I think points you are making may even go over the heads of some. That includes Russell unfortunately. Hopefully I am wrong.

I never even gave this approach a thought.

One of the reasons I have been inactive on here of late is behind the scenes I have been working on stiff like this.

It’s not gone well to the point of there hasn’t been a lot of usable content. The biggest part is the sound quality and back ground noise combined to a lack of editing ability.

I have effectively lost all the work I put into Endura simply because the camera has picked up road noise that’s simply a misrepresentation of real life.

    Either that or I’m deaf.

I’m hoping for a new camera for Xmas. It’s part of my longer term plan to raise our profile.

There is meant to be a credit to us in that video. All the work will be marked as this forum but yeah.

The original is closer to 50 minutes.

    James, well said.

It’s not possible to agree more. In fact in other work and conversations, I have raised the very same points.

If Penske knew that engine was illegal, they are going to detonate it so it can’t be checked.

I have never heard of an engine being faulty by a team claim, supported by the category, tested to be found faulty by the category THEN penalised when it’s not been established the breach wasn’t a result of the fault.

In fact how do we know those last two power runs weren’t the result in getting to the tolerance issue?

Pit lane to a man has ignored this. I don’t understand why.

I don’t understand why the stewards have.

This is a judgement of fact situation. In such cases they look at things with blinders on.

It’s back or white. You’re compliant or you’re not.

I believe this is more about not wishing to think about human error. Human error isn’t an excuse.

The report does mention that if there was a suspicion of intent, on top of what’s been issued as a penalty here, it would be kicked further to another investigation. Then you would definitely see a defence around how the error occurred.

This video is nearly up to 1000 views. Not too bad.

That's reached, 1000 people that are now hopefully just a bit more informed. Those views wouldn't be lost on Russell and Paul either. That is assuming they are paying attention. It's just a shame they have got off the hook somewhat with it being the end of the season. Still, I would expect them to re-address this topic come the new year.

Ian, do you have any reporting available on average time watched for your video?
