From SC's and Skaife's point of view yes it has, and that's how it will remain.

I actually think it did. Hard to say after one race as it's not ultra aero sensitive but the top 5 in quali on Sat were separated by 1 tenth. Both brands represented. That's as close as it's ever been. Sun it was 2 tenths. Hard to say one brand has an advantage with those kind of margins. On an alternate strategy on Saturday, SM matched JW for race pace.

As for the plan to reduce down force and improve the racing, it's the right idea but the execution looks to have missed the mark. Early days though and Burgess did explain why the reduction was so minor this time around. Basically keeping costs down for the teams. Again Adelaide isn't the ideal test. It's been processional for a few years now so see how the cars go on more traditional race tracks. It's a work in progress.

I think there is a case of 'be careful what you wish for' as well. Making the cars so closely matched can actually make the racing worse. Drivers become more risk averse as every point is critical.

I think as you increase the closeness of “parity” there’ll need to be a relaxing of what’s acceptable for racing contact.

Otherwise as you say, it will become risk adverse conga line racing...

Well parity didn't work any better, let's go through facts
    2018 Saturday Q. H@ 1:20.2467, F @-0.0010, H@-0.0071, F@-0.0501,H@0.1728, 10th@-0.2714

So from this you can see bigger spread to 10 th this year compared to last 2 years.
I don't really vthink they can crow , like skaife was saying qualifying was never closer. It's all bs, it's no better, and in fact, probably not as close as before

Quali format changed. Under the same quali format as previous years I believe it would have showed closer times. Not everyone has the ability to perform in a top 10 shootout style. Q1 and q2 were shorter also.

Way too early to say it's a fail in my view.

I actually think Reynolds was a bit hard done by. No way ADP would have known he was there and no way he knew ADP was going to turn across like that until it was too late. You want the drivers having a go otherwise why bother.

Couldn't care really how close qualifying was as it's the actual racing we are all there to watch. What's point being close in qualy if in the race the learder pisses off into the distance and at no point was pressure felt. I'd much rather more gap in qualy and have a closer racing were the top 5 are on each other bumper, after all the race is meant to be the entertainment and all that qualy shows that if are on pole ya probably a very good chance to win which says the racing is over before it's run then ya probably go do something else.

for sure its too EARLY to judge (my parity worked post, was just that a poke in the eye) BUT the fact remains to me, how many holden wins in the first race weekend of the season to Fords over the years.
Normally through off season there is always x amount of rule changes/some years more than others as currently occurred and the ledger most times shows the usual T8 strength/win.....go figure.
For a Change it was reversed last year, a rare change.
    andrewforbes, good post agreed.
Funnily Top 10 shootout has become over the years as one of the "highlights" today, a sell up, it is great at Bathurst due to its long challenging track, I enjoy it more their than anywhere else.
