    4 door mustang (2021 rumour)

    https://www.motorious.com/articles/f...dan-is-coming/

We have a string record on this discussion in our formative years on this site.

It made sense in so many ways.

There has never been a situation where 1 product can come from one platform in the modern automotive era.

Flexibility is key to survival. If you can’t keep people coming back to coupes as repeat customers you have to keep finding new ones.

The life cycle we all go through limits this possibility.

Call it a falcon and be done with it.
But they’re certainly leveraging the mustang ‘heritage’ so I wouldn’t surprised if it gets called a mustang.
I’d be more surprised if it actually got made.
Sedans are dead, American sedans even more dead.

Wouldn't think Ford would spend money on a 4 door mustang when they have the mach e which can do the job and is the future of the industry(in terms of ev's) and is also destined to be a global vehicle. The possible only reason would be to take on dodge but I don't really see it as a possibility. Porsche did this, so the question is would u by the traditional Porsche over a 4 door and if ya buying a 4d why wouldn't u buy the suv Porsche?
Logic for me would to buy the traditional 2d if I wanted a drivers car, something I can enjoy and have fun in.
If I had a family and other responsibilities well I'd buy 4d suv because it looks better then the 4d sedan version and is far more practical.
So I again I say I don't believe now is the time to spend more money on a vehicle option in which there are already other choices in the stable.
Can't see the bean counters allowing it

When Mach E went public I thought that this may represent the '4 door' Mustang speculated about years ago.

I accept that platform sharing is a key factor to model survival. It looks like this is likely to happen when an all-new Mustang presents itself in 2026 or thereabouts where it is rumored it will use CD6 architecture that underpins the 2020 Ford Explorer and closely-related Lincoln Aviator SUVs. What we'll see from that point (speculated of course) is a family of Mustangs, including Kia Stinger GT-style four-door sports sedan.

Personally, I'm not that fond of the 'family of different body shape Mustangs' idea but I'm sure I'll adapt and learn to embrace it. Especially if it ensures the longevity of the brand. Like some have alluded to, a positive side effect of this is it may increase the desirability of the existing S550 and earlier two-door models. 'Real Mustangs' I suspect they will be referred to by then...

If they do go down the four-door sports sedan route I just hope they give it its own district personality and identity. The risk is they make it 'too soft' and it falls into 'no-mans-land'.

Mach E lost me let alone the thought of a 4door Pony.
All I'm seeing by all this is the lack of vision and confidence by Ford.
Only worried about the share price in the big picture using Mustang to piggy back sales makes them feel its a goer.
Surely there are people like Iacocca's around today to inspire this brand what it once was.
