When I was pricing up a Corolla it was gonna get real close to 40k.

That’s a lot of money, (and a lot of car really) but still a lot for a Corolla.
I hate to see how much the gr Corolla will be. 55-60k?

The Corolla is no longer a 'small cheap' car. They are mid-size really and sit on the premium side of the segment without being prestige. It's basically where the Ford models are too but with a greater emphasis on 'fun, sporty performance'.

Yaris has taken over that mantel but even one of those in its class is on the expensive side. For low cost, even the Koran brands are moving out of that segment making way for the Chinese brands.

One familiar brand not to be overlooked for 'cheaper, small but good' is Suzuki.

    Suzuki’s are awesome
The problem with society today, is that nobody drinks from the skulls of their enemies anymore.

It is a great example about brand power and consistency. The big problem is that Ford have not had brand consistency with the Fiesta and Focus. Yes their marketing is shit but when you flop and change what models you are bring here then the public will run with what has always been there. The Toyota brand has always been about full range, sometimes boring, well built, generally non-offensive, and good value. They have done this for decades. The Fiesta and Focus are better looking, handle better, but is that what the "general public" want or even care about? The question is what would have happened if Ford had continued with the Laser nameplate and had this instead of Focus/Fiesta. Focus maybe not. But instead of Fiesta? You then have something that may have been able to be built on. The bottom line is that Toyota have been great on consistency. Consistency of nameplate, consistency on supply of models for what the public wants, so you have to come up with something that either sets the market on fire or play the long term game. Ford have done neither. The current dumb down of the ST-Line does nothing for me. The last model's ST and RS were cracking cars and I would have either models in Fiesta or Focus. But this is not what mainstream want. Shame, because they are cracking drives and even in basic spec both cars deserve more market share.
