    AU3 deleted coolant level switch

At some point in AU3, ford decided the low coolant level switch wasn’t needed.

I am working on the assumption the engine loom connector to the sensor was altered.

My AU 3 has the insides of an AU1 which means it’s instruments are looking for the switch and the it’s absence means the coolant level icon flashes non stop.

My first preference would be to get the light to mean something but with out a connector in the bay, simply getting a sensor and cutting a hole I the expansion tank isn’t going to work.

    Any ideas?

is there a version of the header tank where there is a sensor in it to detect fluid levels there, perhaps?
If so, source/run one of those, run a wire back to the connector?

Can't you fit the dash cluster from a series 3 mate ?

    I have a series 3 cluster. It's a good suggestion but..

I am told series 2 and up is not compatible.

This is the reason why the series 3 electronics are now in my xr8.

    But I don't know 100% the cluster won't work.

In series 2 and up the oil sender changes to effectively a switch. My series 1 actually reads pressure where the later models its either high or low.

There was no connector visible in the engine bay but I didn't search very hard.

I went and looked at my xr8 to compare and couldn't see anything in the 6 engine bay. Means its hidden somewhere or Ford deleted that connector and the switch.

I did come across a thread on aff.

Years since I was on there and it turned into an argument on if the cars had one or not and when it disappeared.

But there wasn't anything helpful there

When i pull the cluster out and disconnect it from the dash loom, am.i right in assuming one of the connections in the plug is for the warning light. If I somehow break that connection that will stop the light from coming on. ?

I can suggest something really dodgy. I did it to my standard AU ute when I put a XR cluster in it.

Pull the face of the cluster off and put a piece of black electrical tape across the light. Even knowing that it is there you won't be able to tell.

    Good idea.

I have run into a few other issues now so the cluster will have to come out
