Nine and Ten look to V8 Supercars TV deal

The Nine Network has joined the race to broadcast the V8 Supercars Championship from 2013.

According to a report in today’s Sunday Telegraph, V8 Supercar officials have held talks with both Nine and Network Ten over a potential move away from current broadcaster the Seven Network.

While the current six-year deal with Seven is worth an approximate $168 million, the paper claims that a new five-year deal could be worth up to $300 million, and quotes a ‘well-placed V8 official’ on the matter.

“Nine are definitely interested and we are talking to them,” said the source.

“All of the major free-to-air networks are interested, as is pay TV.”

Apprently V8 Supercars said they would be happy to sell , say the TV rights to Bathurst to noe network, the clipsal to another, and the remainder to another network
All about money I guess, doesnt matter it may get to confusing for the average punter

Yeah like The AFL grand final for a few years. I dont really care as long as seven doesn't have it. Prefer 10 but as long as Eddie doesn't show up nine woudl be ok

    I agree there
As you know I have lost a fair bit of intrest in the V8s
I think its now so orchastrated
And I do believe that channel 7 has had a fair bit to do with my dis intrest
At least this year, we wont be shunted for the AFL, as the V8's have been moved to 7 Mate, instead of 7

I hope whoever gets it is a free-to-air channel and it doesn't go the Pay-TV route (which I do doubt anyway), but I'll be a little dissapointed to see it go from Network to network depending on the race. It will make it hard for the average punter to keep track of where it is, when its on, and how they run it.
I wasn't too happy with 7 to begin with but its a bit better now. What I'd really like to see is more races televised! Brutes, Touring car masters, etc. You'd hope that if they move it to one of their secondary channels they'd be able to show the whole day of racing.
