Is the 2014 Falcon too far away?

In the light of yesterday's announcement to cease local manufacturing of Falcon and Territory in 2016,
is the 2014 updated Falcon and Territory now too far away?

Did Ford make the announcement way to early?

If sales of FGII and Territory stay low, will Ford be forced to take even more drastic action?

    Things don't add up......

    I think yes.

The model timing with Ford has just sucked for the last decade.

The speed of the announcement has shocked everyone. In fords world it took ages and they have been under pressure to say something. Giving them credit that to announce the decision less than 24 hours after it became official is serious commitment that backs everything they have said but I still say it was no one business and yes detrimental with FG having so long to survive.

I think now Ford risk becoming Labor. Now one is listen anymore. I definitely think that has the capacity to become worse. Would have been great if they could have shown the next falcon before announcing it. This is the management of negativity we talked about with GM. Announcing Commodore has ended before it gets to market was just stupid and sent GM and Holden into damage control.

Struggling to see how this isn't any different myself. I think they could have waited till 2014 to announce this after having a product reveal that allows the public to see the new car for what it is.

I know our media probably wouldn't allowed that to happen but now I just don't know which way people will go.
History is a statement, the future is a question.

FU needs to be out before Xmas.... Its FAR too long to wait till 2014, what's the point of a 20 month model..?

I think they will pull it forward. But its not that easy. FU still has a few builds to go through before it hits Job 1.

At best we might see it in a year.

This is the problem, rush it into production before its ready and we get another EA.... Not a great way to remember the Falcon.

I have a very bad feeling that what happens to this year's production is way more important than a car supposedly coming in 15 months time, there's talk of more down days coming if sales continue to stay down, VF looks the goods in Evoke and SV6, I just don't see FGII competing.

The only shot I see is G6 LE and XR6 with Luxury pack....

There are already down days that have come up.

Today is one and two next month. Ford have a couple of things they'll do in the mean time. I think there should be a good value base model XT by the end of the year. You already see many XR's coming out with reverse cameras as standard now.

How good are the workers going to be anyway? You will now start to lose the best people you have. Low moral and high quality don't normally go well.

This is he fairest way for the workers to Ian, gives them a 3 year window to look for another job
I think Ford have been very ethical in this

Karl Stephonovic was getting into Bob this morning on the Today show, saying if you were having meetings on Sunday with the govt, about this plan, why did you wait till Thursday to announce it, and why isn't there a plan already in place for those being made redundant

Come on Media, Ford have given 3.1/2 yrs notice

The difference is that it's not a major body or power train change like the EA was to XF as most
of the work is cosmetic, added features and updated interior, so I think that most of the basic
platform work is still pretty solid.....
