    And as you mentioned Dave

"The all-new Ford Mustang is set to debut at January’s 2014 Detroit auto show ahead of the start of production around July."

What a shame our own GT couldn't have got to 50 as well.
History is a statement, the future is a question.

The global and Australian market has become very image and experience focused, especially for vehicles in that $50k and over range.

The last time Ford /Tickford sold the Cobra Mustang the vehicle was heavily hampered. The conversion was a comprise for a manual and the quality and performance failed to live up to expectation for what was a $90k+ vehicle. It was no surprise that it didn't run off the shelf.
Lincoln's brief is to tackle the luxury marques. Mustang will be shared with Lincoln, who will design their own top-hat. Two, and four doors.

If Ford can produce 3, 4,or 5 completely "different" vehicles from one platform, then I wonder how they'd go with this very important platform that's meant to carry their flagship...

The timing for the full scale of these models' is about 2016/2017.

But it's not an "all new" car at all, just the existing car with IRS added evolved into more modern styling.
And there's absolutely no guarantee that Lincoln will do a four door RWD anything....

I would call it all-new. Nothing carried over from the previous platform (according to JEM).

Sound like January 2014 is going to be an interesting time for Ford with the new Mustang and Falcon kicking the year off.

Exciting product, not sure where its going to draw sales from though, likely incremental business for Ford.

    When did JEM say that?
I was lead to believe this was an evolution like BF to FG, not an all new vehicle..
I do recall him saying that people were expecting a lot more change ( Iosos) than there actually is..

Some people call the FG "AU Mk6". I believe FG is all new, and the extent of changes in S550 are even greater.

He said it on a US forum but then again he was quoting one of his sources. It shares nothing from the old platform.

Well if they've put a new IRS in it and by all accounts a new front suspension, they're going to have to redesign the chassis to accommodate it, so there will be very little tying it back to the S197

The funny part was that S197 was originally designed with IRS, then the program manager Phil Martens
decided to switch to SRA to save money, forcing a whole tear up of the rear end, the head engineer was
so disgusted he went over Marten's head but to no avail, resulting in his departure from the project.

How strange it is that Ford again redesigns mustang for IRS and supposedly a new front suspension.
I would still think that even though everything is changed on the new Mustang, this is far from being
    a greenfield project.
