Airbags, steering columns and digging to find a noise in the fan....

So I'm trying to dig the fan out of the car to try and cure a noise... I'm at the point of removing the steering column, and following the destructions in the workshop manual... haven't got a bloody socket to fit the airbag retainers on the steering wheel.... am I likely to set off the bag if I reef the whole column out with the wheel installed?

    Fan behind column?

    Hey,
What model Falcon are we talking here? Generally the fan is up behind the glovebox and nowhere near the steering column. If you do need to pull the whole steering column out you can leave the wheel attached with the airbag and as long as you disconnect the battery and un-plug all the connectors you should be right. Be sure to lock the steering to make sure it doesn't turn and throw out the alignment and/or the steering sensor calibration (if high series)

Thanks mate, I was trying to access the fan and heater box, so as far as I could figure, the dash had to come out. It's an AU2 XR8, dash and column now on garage floor, and fan sorted out... edumacational!
