Falcon FG MkII Info & Pricing

    September 15th, 2011

The first images and details of the upgraded Ford Falcon FG MkII have been released, revealing revised exterior styling, enhanced interior technology and added safety features.

The Falcon FG MkII will hit showrooms in the fourth quarter of 2011, and will be followed by the heavily anticipated Ford Falcon EcoBoost early in 2012.

The new exterior design is a subtle revision of the first-generation FG Falcon, adopting front-end styling reminiscent of the updated Ford Territory SZ and taking cues from the global One Ford design theme.

Every new model gets a smaller upper grille and a larger octagonal lower grille, along with revised headlight and fog light assemblies.

The highlight of the cabin is the Interior Command Centre (ICC), which is standard on all models except the entry-level XT sedan and XL ute.

The eight-inch colour touchscreen incorporates a range of features, including audio and phone settings, and satellite navigation systems for the higher models.

Standard in the new G6E and G6E Turbo models, the new sat-nav gets a range of new features including Suna Traffic Message Channel, ‘green routing’ (calculates most economical routes, as well as the fastest and shortest routes), 3D map mode, overspeed and speed camera warnings, street house number display, and a number of other new functions.

The fully integrated touchscreen interface replaces the old remote control navigation system.

All new models get a revised instrument cluster layout with new designs and graphics, promising improved functionality. All audio systems feature USB connectivity with full head-unit integration.

Six airbags – dual front, side and curtains – will be standard on all sedan models, with the new XT, G6, XR6 and XR6 Turbo now matching the G6E and G6E Turbo. All sedans also get rear parking sensors. All utes will come with four airbags (dual front and sides).

The ‘Generation 9.0’ Dynamic Stability Control system is standard across the new Falcon line-up, with the entry-level XL ute benefitting from DSC, traction control and brake assist for the first time.

Power outputs remain the same for all models, and Ford is yet to confirm whether efficiency gains have been made across the range.

Ford says the new Falcon FG MkII delivers major advances in vehicle refinement. Comfort and quietness have been improved, with engineers focusing on reducing exhaust, driveline, wind and road noise, and upgrading the sound-deadening package.

The four-cylinder turbocharged EcoBoost engine will be available in the Falcon XT, G6 and G6E models from early in 2012. The Falcon will become the first vehicle in the world to combine EcoBoost technology with a rear-wheel drive architecture, and this new powertrain promises significant improvements in fuel economy and emissions.

Ford Australia will release more details on the Falcon EcoBoost closer to its launch next year.

Ford Australia President and CEO, Bob Graziano, said the upgrades to the Falcon FG MkII would “make a great Australian car even better”.

“FG Falcon MkII builds on the success of the FG Falcon program, as well as the recently released new Territory range, by offering customers more equipment and the latest technology innovations, while continuing to deliver outstanding performance, fuel efficiency, refinement and safety.”

Pricing details of the Ford Falcon FG MkII will be released in the coming months. Stay tuned.

    FG Falcon MkII prices

    November 07th, 2011

The refreshed Ford FG Falcon MkII will be significantly cheaper than the model it replaces, with Ford Australia slashing between $2555 and $3655 off the price of every model in the range.

The FG MkII update brings with it a number of standard equipment enhancements, making the new Ford Falcon between $3605 and $8255 better value than the FG MkI, depending on the variant.

The range-topping Falcon G6E Turbo MkII benefits the most from the model upgrade. Now priced from $56,235, the new model is $2755 cheaper than before and comes standard with $5500 worth of additional features, including a new multimedia centre with 8.0-inch colour touchscreen and satellite navigation, as well as LED daytime running lights, a vehicle alarm and new 19-inch alloy wheels.

The most popular model in the range, the XR6, drops $3000 to $39,990. Its added features – 18-inch alloy wheels, sports projector headlights, and eight-inch colour touchscreen Premium Interior Command Centre – make it $5650 better value than before.

The entry-level Falcon XT is now $37,235, falling from $40,290. Ford Australia says the FG MkII XT is $4105 better value than before thanks to the addition of 16-inch alloy wheels, curtain airbags, reversing sensors and a USB music port.

The full details of the specification upgrades to the new Ford FG Falcon MkII can be found here.

Ford Australia President and CEO Bob Graziano said the FG MkII is the “most advanced, most comprehensively equipped and best value large car Ford Australia has ever produced”.

“At Ford, we recognise that Australians work hard for their money and want vehicles that deliver outstanding value,” Mr Graziano said.

“The improvements we’re making to the award-winning Falcon range with the introduction of FG Falcon MkII, combined with the strong value proposition presented by the revised list pricing, highlight the attractiveness of our large car package – a car designed, engineered and built in Australia to meet the needs of Australian customers.”

Ford Australia’s Justin Lacy said the Ford FG Falcon MkII would arrive in national showrooms “bang on Christmas time”, either late in December of early in January. The facelifted package will be joined early in 2012 by the fuel efficient four-cylinder EcoBoost – the car that Ford Australia hopes will convince Australians to stick with its large family sedan rather than downsize to smaller models that have traditionally been cheaper to run.

Ford Falcon manufacturer’s list prices (excluding government and dealer charges):

    Sedan:

    XT – $37,235 (-$3055)
    XR6 – $39,990 (-$3000)

    G6 – $40,835 (-$2555)
    G6E – $46,735 (-$3655)
    G6E Turbo – $56,235 (-$2755)

    Ute:

    XL (C/C) – $27,590 (-$3505)

As I see it, FG II pricing achieves three things,

    1) it makes Fleet purchases much cheaper and gives added equipment preserving higher resale values.

    2) it allows Ford to continue offering retail specials but actually make more money on those when they occur.

    3) an attractive and well equipped XT allows Ford to cycle offers between XT, G6 and XR6 avoiding over use of the XR6.

And that's before we even discuss EcoLPI's affect on fleet purcheses and Ecoboost, the dark horse...

what did you think of it?

so far going off some of the pics i have mixed thoughts about it. definitely as John says the big winner here is the xt in terms of looks.. some of the xr's in the pics look pretty good, but then you get the funny angle which ruins the experience. can't wait to see one on the road here.

Price decrease and more standard features is a real bonus.

I am a little worried that it may take Ford a little longer to win back lost fleet sales; they have to fight their way back in, so despite having the a very competitive package I don't think it's easy as we think it will be in 2012. I think Ford already know this, and there will be a trend in the upward direction but it may not be enough for the critics.
