Ok, I don't know the name of the part, but, where the steering comes through the firewall it attaches to a section covered in heat wrap that goes under the extractors to the steering box. The joint closest to the box is where the play is. Can someone please tell me if they know the name of the part I'm talking about ?

Took it to a steering specialist and he said it was a guide bearing at the base of the column that was missing or had come loose.
