    EF Ignition Barrel

After the success of replacing the header tank and radiator switch, it now appears like the ignition switch inn the EF is cactus. I can still turn it to start the car, but when you turn it off, it goes all the way back to off, do not pass Accessories, Remove key...

What is the easiest way off replacing the ignition barrel? I'd prefer to not have to drill any holes, and reading online, just changing the barrel is quite easy, turn the key to accessories, push in a tab, and out she comes.

Has as anybody done this, and is this the best way of fixing the EF's latest problem?

The SWITCH itself is a piece of piss. You can remove it with a BIC pen (as you have described above). If its the BARREL that is damaged (as in the anti theft has been broken) then its a new steering column you need. In either case (if you have smart lock or whatever it is) you will need to make sure your not gonna lock electronics in the car.

I think its just the switch (the bit where the key goes in).

I've ordered a genuine one on EBAY, so I'll have a look at the weekend.

As mentioned key in on acc and stick a thin strong implement into the small hole in the side and out it will slide. I am almost a poet.

Awesome. Thanks. Will the Smartlock need re-programming, or will it be right?

New key will require a wipe and a reprogram. I've been quoted $150 from one of the ford dealers. They are normally the cheaper ones in my part (funny enough one of the better ones).

Bit of a thread dig, (and I've just joined the site) but how did you go) I had to replace my barrel and ignition and there was no dealer involved.

I replaced the whole ignition switch assembly on an EF/EL, can't remember which one it was, but it had these two threaded dowels holding in the switch assembly, had to hit them out with a hammer and chisel to slowly wind them out, when the new switch assembly was in we just left it on ignition for an hour and it reprogrammed itself to the new key/ignition switch, no need for dealer/scan tool.
