People say cyclists are wimps and gay but at least a cyclist will crash at 60 km/h onto bitumen, lose skin everywhere but still get back on the bike and finish the stage. Chris Froome was riding with 2 fractures in this years tour and Cadel Evans has ridden a stage with a fractured collar bone, something these soccer skirts would never do.

Even in pain you'd get up, dust yourself off and get back into it looking forward for "pay back" LOL.....thats how I still play.

    Talking about $$$$$$$$$$$$$

My favourite english club as you can gather have had the "biter" for 2seasons, last season he was brilliant FYI, top goal scorer, player of the year etcetc.....glad we said enough is enough and have cashed him in - Thankyou Barcelona !
Just look at these type of figures LOL.......our release clause to open bidding on his contract starts at $70m LOL.....

After enduring a first campaign without major silverware in six years, the Catalan club are to bolster their attack by signing Suarez on a five-year contract for a transfer fee that media reports put at 81 million euros ($121 million).

If the price is confirmed it would be the third most expensive deal in football history after Barca's arch rivals Real Madrid paid €100 million for Gareth Bale and €94 million for Cristiano Ronaldo

    More money money money !

    Prize money

The total prize money on offer for the tournament was confirmed by FIFA as US$576 million (including payments of US$70 million to domestic clubs), a 37 percent increase from the amount allocated in the 2010 tournament.[25] Before the tournament, each of the 32 entrants will receive US$1.5 million for preparation costs. Once at the tournament, the prize money will be distributed as follows:

US$8 million – To each team eliminated at the group stage (16 teams)
US$9 million – To each team eliminated in the round of 16 (8 teams)
US$14 million – To each team eliminated in the quarter-finals (4 teams)
US$20 million – Fourth placed team
US$22 million – Third placed team
    US$25 million – Runner-up
    US$35 million – Winner

So the Socceroos got $9.5m all up for their trouble.

Lead story in today's Daily Telegraph sport section inside back page...

AFTER just two years and seven matches, Sydney’s A-League derby is fast becoming an event to rival the Bledisloe Cup, the NRL grand final, State of Origin or the Golden Slipper and the Championships at Randwick.

Sydney FC v Western Sydney Wanderers has rocked the foundations of sport in this city with the force of an earthquake.

It has now become such a monumental part of our sporting calendar that it could sell-out ANZ Stadium once a year — all 83,000 seats.

The A-League Sydney derby has become one of the hottest tickets in Australian sport.

Saturday night’s crowd of 41,263 was the biggest at Allianz Stadium for a club game in any code. Bigger than any of the NRL’s Anzac Day games, bigger than any Waratahs match. And it sold out three days in advance.

Football boss David Gallop can no longer allow his clubs to dictate where this game will be played. The Wanderers insist on playing it at home in front of their 18,000 faithful fans at Pirtek Stadium, ignoring the opportunity to get another 65,000 paying customers at Homebush. Sydney FC wants to stay true to their fans too at Allianz.

The home ground advantage is massive and we love their loyalty to rusted-on fans — but that’s not the point. This game has become simply too big. It is an epic.

These two great soccer clubs meet three times a year in the A-League draw.

The obvious solution is to play one game at ANZ, one at Pirtek and one at Allianz.

That way every sporting fan will get the opportunity to experience a truly marvellous sporting occasion. Easts v West. Everyone picks a side. Bring it on. Make it an annual December showdown in the lead-up to Christmas.

Show it on free-to-air and next time the broadcast deal is negotiated, get the big networks bidding for it alongside Fox Sports.

Sydney FC fans invaded the pitch after the Sky Blues came back from 2-nil down to win the derby.

Sitting in the grandstand for these derbies is like nothing else in Australian sport. The RBB and the Cove supporter groups are the best and most passionate in the country. They make the event as much as the footballers.

I know because I’ve sat with both of them. It’s like Blatchy’s Blues at Origin but much louder. Like South Sydney’s Burrow on grand final day but even more fanatical.

Long-time soccer supporters say the atmosphere at Allianz Stadium on Saturday night was like soccer blockbusters in Europe.

The sight of Sydney FC fans invading the pitch to celebrate the match-winning goal might have been a security risk but it was as special as it gets.

ROBBIE SLATER: ‘NO OTHER CODE CAN MATCH SYDNEY DERBY’

The phenomenal success and growth of the A-League, first under Frank Lowy and Ben Buckley, and even more so since David Gallop took charge, is just unbelievable.

After two rounds, the A-League match average is close to 20,000, a level that lifts the A-League, albeit temporarily, above the NRL’s season average.

Even the match report on the Sydney FC-Wanderers game was the No. 2 most-read story on The Daily Telegraph website on Sunday, with more hits than any other sports story.

Who knows what lies ahead in future years with another side in Sydney, almost certainly in Sydney’s south, to be added to the competition?

Wanderers’ Vitor Saba is sent off for his tackle on Sydney FC's Terry Antonis.

The irony is Gallop was famously sacked by NRL chairman John Grant for being too ‘‘reactive’’.

Well, he’s about to react again to the remarkable success of this derby spectacular … like any good administrator would.

“Saturday night was just astonishing,” Gallop said. “The noise, the numbers and the drama went up another level from what we’ve seen before.

“The game’s growth is remarkable and it’s taking football into new territory.

“We will sit down and talk to Sydney FC and Western Sydney Wanderers, and our broadcast partners, to make sure we all make the most of this opportunity.”

It’s times like this when you need a ‘‘reactive’’ man in charge. Someone who is prepared to break tradition, throw open the gates of ANZ Stadium and sell out every single seat. This game deserves it.

Top 100 Footballers current $value in the market.

    http://www1.thesportbible.com/images...c4f3ca3593.png

Below is the Top 10 of the above. Mind boggling, Messi @ $172.8m lbs that is !

The Top 10 Most Expensive Footballers
    ADAM POWERS

The transfer window, no matter what time of the year, brings rumours aplenty. Many media outlets speculate over the price which major European clubs will pay for world-class talent, but CIES Football Observatory’s ‘Transfer Value Calculator’ has tried to add some clarity to the speculation.

CIES – an independent sports research company based in Switzerland – has today published the top 10 highest-valued football players in the world, using their ‘Transfer Value Calculator’ (TVC).

The transfer values are calculated using an exclusive algorithm developed on the basis of over 1,500 fee paying transfers which have occurred since 2009. Variables include appearances, goals, age, position, contract duration, results achieved by their club and national team, amongst many other specifically chosen characteristics.

However CIES did it, here are the eyebrow-raising results...

    10. Gareth Bale - £47.1m

With much conjecture about Manchester United lining up a nine-figure sum to lure Bale away from the Bernabeau, it seems the Red Devils would be paying double the going rate. Although Bale’s £85.3m move to Madrid was the most expensive transfer in history, the Welshman only chalks up tenth spot on CIES’s list.

    9. Alexis Sanchez - £47.9m

Arsenal purchased Sanchez from Barcelona for £32m in the summer, yet the energetic forward’s performances since then more than warrant his place on the list. Already with 10 goals and six assists in the Premier League this season, you could argue that Sanchez is invaluable to Arsenal.

    8. Cesc Fabregas - £48.7m

Arsene Wenger has received much criticism for snubbing the opportunity of securing the playmaker’s services in the summer, as Fabregas has prevailed to prove his worth in Chelsea blue. Arguably hitting his peak at the age of 27, a price tag of £48.7m echoes his class.

    7. Raheem Sterling - £49.5m

A surprise inclusion on the list, the Liverpool youngster’s subdued first half of the season hasn’t affected his global worth. Wielding pace, dribbling ability and composure in the final third, the sheer potential of Sterling demands his high price tag.

    6. Sergio Aguero - £51m

Though currently nursing a knee injury, the Argentinean has had an explosive season – from scoring a Manchester Derby winner to netting a hat-trick against Bayern Munich. Jamie Carragher labelled Aguero the only world class player in England earlier this season, outlining his worth to Manchester City and the Premier League.

    5. Paul Pogba - £56.5m

How Manchester United fans could have done with the flamboyant Frenchman last season. After leaving United at the age of 19, Pogba is enjoying his third season in Serie A; a league which has overseen his development into one of the world’s most sought-after midfielders.

    4. Diego Costa - £66m

When Costa was poached by Chelsea for a fee of £32m in the summer, the majority of people who had seen his performances for Atletico Madrid thought it was a steal. After he got off to a blistering start in the Premier League, his evaluated price has soared to the fourth highest in the world.

    3. Eden Hazard - £77.7m

The most expensive Premier League player on the list, Eden Hazard’s consistent performances for Chelsea over the last few years has made him a vital component of Mourinho’s regime. Bought for £32m by Chelsea in 2012, his value has risen 242% since.

    2. Cristiano Ronaldo - £104.4m

Widely touted to win the 2014 Ballon d’Or, Ronaldo enters 2015 in the baffling knowledge that he’ll be 30 in two months. Jorge Mendes – Ronaldo’s agent – has claimed that the Madrid forward will continue to improve to the age of 40, yet his age may have deprived him of reaching a higher price in the TVC algorithm.

    1. Lionel Messi - £172.8m

Given Messi’s devotion to Barcelona, there has been no previous fee to cite his possible value. Worth double the current world record transfer fee, the sum of £172.8m sounds ridiculous to ears of young and old. Perhaps, he is in fact, priceless.
