Before the BA XR8 I have had a few other utes. Thought I might share a few of them with you all. Biggest project was my first Ford ute.
This started as a white XF with carby 4.1 crossflow with a single rail. Decided that it needed a overhaul. New paint and rims were the first order.
Then got stuck into the sound system with a custom setup. Couple of big subs, amps, splits, CD player with all the trimmings. Dog was the QA officer and style consultant! Also changed the entire interior. It was baby poo brown. Seats were recovered. A pretty big job for someone who had done no mechanical work before buying this ute. Weekends taking cars apart at the local wreckers taught me about Fords and also paid for the majority of the parts for the ute. Was a fun time!
Took the heads off and raided the local wreckers for a XE fuel injection setup. The heads were ported and polished and shaved. A bigger cam was also installed. Gave the ute a much needed shove in the rear. Need headers and exhaust gave it a good roar as well. A T5 was also sourced and I fitted a new factory LSD for the rear.
Speaking of rear I have a custom cover made. This was done by an upholstery shop in Townsville. Came up OK.
Then moved to a XH2 Tradesman. No mods here. The AU2 was the last private ute. It had an upgraded stereo and a cool printed tonneau cover. It have the "Built Ford Tough" emblem printed on it. The amount of Ford guys that wanted to buy it off me was funny. The AU was a very nice car and has been one of my favourites. Good fun back then with some nice cars.
