    Tech in the new Falcon

I have been looking through the workshop manual on the FGX to see if there are any stand out features that differ from FGII. One thing I have noticed is the inclusion of mechanical projectors, that is projectors that have a high / low adjustment for high beam. The FGII is a fixed unit. Interestingly looking into this the FGX requires a specialized bulb, but further research has shown that on some vehicles you use this bulb you can fit HID bulbs. The type of bulb is HIR2LL apposed to H7 in FGII.

I wonder if the FGX was supposed to have HID headlights, something that many have been calling for, for many years. Makes you wonder how much other technology that could potentially be in the cars central nervous system but came redundant due to cost?

My understanding is that the BEM in these cars will actually support a lot of things, but those functions are not activated from factory and of course in a lot of cases the wiring needed to operate certain features doesn't exist.

people 'call' for many things, not necessarily because they are better, but just to keep up with all the 'cool' cars, and win the arguments down the pub.

headlights (self levelling esp) on many new cars are extremely annoying, both behind you and coming toward you, esp on rough or undulating surfaces.

HID projectors and Halogen projectors have different optics, so you're still not supposed to use HIDs in them as it will just annoy other drivers with glare.

Do they have washers too? I'm fairly certain once you pass around 2000 odd lumens (off the top of my head) or have HIR or H9 globes fitted ADRs state you need auto levellers and washers to comply, which is why 90% of our cars don't get HIDs in our market which have them in foreign markets, such as LV Focus for example.

Also HIDs are far superior to Halogen globes, I imported the genuine Ford HID assemblies and ballasts for my Focus from Ford Germany, and its a night and day difference between the original halogen reflectors and the bixenon HID projectors I have now, and I've never been flashed by anyone coming the other way.

Theres also two specifications of cutoffs for HID projectors, ECE and DOT.

DOT is the American standard, which if you look at the beam pattern on MAD's Falcon which is what he has, our cars and Europe have ECE cutoffs.

I think the biggest cause for concern is cars still coming out of the factory with useless H4 globes, crap low beam, crap high beam, tends to come out on those dual cab utes, even the expensive ones like Amarok, thats not acceptable in this day and age.

Compared to a BEM on say the Ranger the ones in the Falcon/Terri don't have all that much.

HID's are annoying. They pretty much blind you. I do find it funny that so many people seem to need HID's (even when 95% wouldn't leave the suburbs).
