The only engine difference between the 351 & 335 is the amount of throttle opening it has from 4000 rpm onward. If your GTF felt more lively that would tell me there is more difference between FG GT & FGX XR8 that just ascetics and the engine calibration. This could simply be the difference in weight, cabin sound proofing and even trans calibrations that can take the edge off the experience slightly for previous 335 owners.

Either way I would tend to agree that taking price out of the equation the GTF would be my preferred option out of the two. The package just seems that bit more special and unique. Is it $30k better? If you are a serious Ford collector then absolutely.

My mind continually comes back to GTE with a boot spoiler, or a G8E with......more!
( re my comments on the dealers dilemma replacing previous GTE sales with what ?)

I cant describe the seat of the pants difference other than to say again, that what ever the xr had, and it was a lot,
the F just has more................just more.

Have to disagree with the XR feeling 'value' and 'not premium'. I've owned nothing but Ghias for most of my cars, and this is a premium car, with a nice blend of sporty and luxury.

It comes with leather everything, a big Sync 2 screen with all the fruit, has a supple yet firm ride (kudos to Ford), and is very comfortable. I can understand comparing GT-F to XR8, and I would be surprised to see that the GT-F didn't feel any more special, but the XR does what it does very well, for a great price point.

As said previously, they were built for two different markets, and I intend on driving mine daily without having to worry about re-sale or the target of theft. I feel like we both won with each of these models.

I agree, as i have had Ghia's also, but i personally wouldn't put he xr8 into the same lineage as a Ghia, as that is a big softy,
where as the xr,s are more a sporty package.
As a former Ghia driver would you have been a contender for a G8e / GTE variant ? if given a choice?

Yes, I would have been. My wife gave me a mandate this time around - no more old man cars! She thinks this is more me, and I think she is right. I love performance, but also comfort, and I feel that the XR has both.

I pointed out a GT-E getting around town, and she wasn't a fan. She wanted the sportier look for me, and now that I have it, I am glad she pushed for it. I do love this car!

As I've said elsewhere, I am surprised at the lack of a compromise with this car. It has a firm suspension and turns without much body roll, yet rides gently and softly. It seems like you have to go one way or another, but this car does both effortlessly.

In what way does the XR look sportier than a gte?
