I assume its an auto.
There is a chance of water contamination in the auto. Best thing to do is get a transmission cooler (that bypasses the radiator) put in. Talk to an Auto service mob. It shouldn't cost to much to get done. But while your doing that get the Auto serviced. People don't tend to service thir auto's and then when they start acting funny its the cars fault.
Couple of other things that can happen (would have happened by now seeing as the car is almost 12 years old) are:
- Window regs can fail
- Door stops locking cause one of the actuator fails
- If you have duel zone there blend motor shaft breaks (that's an expensive job)
- Diff bushes fail (about $600 to fix but put in super pro comfort).
- Idler pully (pretty much squeals).
- Transmission Position sensor can fail (cars constantly stalls going around corners or at light)....also best to clean the throttle body intake as that can cause the drama.
- Brake rotors warp and need machining. If you catch this early you can save the rotors. Otherwise if left to long get new aftermarket ones as your wasting your time machining them. Also go hard euro pads as it will stop the warp....but it will also eat your rotors quicker.
Otherwise they weren't a bad unit. The biggest problem is the water contamination. But if you change the coolant every two years it really doesn't happen. But ones the coolant becomes corrosive then its only a matter of time.
