If I understand what you are saying correctly pete, the circumstances of this event make it difficult for procedures to be maximised. It's a club thing, a bit of fun. Depending on how many cars are being run often the time to strap them all down the same way isn't taken, tyre pressures not checked, fuel used different.
TOB isn't as flimsy as people think. It's very unlikely this was the issue here as with three runs they aren't normally getting into heat soak and especially so this time of year.
Cold protection could very well be an issue. You need to not only have the engine up to temperature but all the fluids in the drivetrain as well. If the engine is in cold protection they sound slightly different. You can see it in the graph too.
Neither cold temp nor heat soak should be seen in the circumstances described if the car has been prepped correctly.
I would want to know how many kms were on these Xr8s ahead of jumping to conclusions. Tyre pressure, fuel types, the normal suspects first.
By far the most likely issue this time of year is if the car was too cold. At three runs you won't be getting into high inlet temps I wouldn't think
