    good stuff.

can your hubs fit 10 or 11 speed? or do you need to get new rims as well? i know you want to, but just wondering if your current wheels could fit the bigger cassette.

That is a good question, I will have to check compatibility. The wheels will need replacing soon as they are starting to need work keeping them true which on a alloy rim is a sign they are fatiguing.

This is the front derailleur braze on conversion.

This is the drive side chain stay repair, there used to a big chunk taken out where the chain came off the inside chain ring and got jammed into the frame. Carbon fibre does not like a steel chain jammed against it. It is hard to see in this pic but the finish is clear coat over bare carbon and you can not pick the repair.

This is the Merckx as it is now. I will have to weigh it but I think it is about 7.5kg or just under at the moment, if I put my light weight seat post and seat on it will drop another 250g. Not bad for a 56cm frame with a 12 year old dura ace groupset.

This is the complete crack through the drive side dropout that is the death of the Monoc, may it RIP.

    The Monoc (yellow frame)?

Theoretically yes but the cost would be around $500 to do so as the dropout has to be cut out and a new one welded in then painted. The problem is the crack has occurred because it is an alloy frame and the metal has fatigued and thus is now weakened. I could repair this crack but soon another crack will occur elsewhere and the end result would be having to get that repaired too. It would not be too long before I have spent the original value of the frame (about $2000) fixing various cracks in various places. The simple truth is this frame has reached the end of its service life, it has done about 100,000km and served me well.
