    FG XR6 Barra Engine transplant to 87 XF

    Hi, This is my first post so go easy on me if I ask a stupid question or one that has been ask before!

    We have a 87 XF EFI with T5 that is used as a track car. We also have a 2010 FG XR6 n/a barra engine plus ecu, bcm, full wiring harness including ignition key. We want to fit it to our XF and use the T5. The car will never be registered.

    I am looking for guidance with the following;

    I want to use the T5 currently in the car. Understand the bell housing is different (XF to FG). Does the bell housing have to be from a FG or do other models share the same bell housing facilitating fitting our T5 to the Barra.

    Fly wheel and clutch. Will the flywheel and clutch from our EFI fit the barra? Leeds me to also ask if the existing cable system (for clutch) can be used or do have to convert to hydraulic?

    Engine mounts. Are there standard ford engine mounts that will facilitate the transplant or do we have to customise?

    Will the engine fit with the FG sump or do we need to change. Have indication that XF sway bar is only issue and can be changed. If this is true what model sway bar would we use?

    Understand the electronics maybe a hassle, we do have a bit of a handle on this bit however any tips on this and questions above would be gratefully received.

    Welcome! You could try mating the T5 upto the FG bell housing, it might need custom drilling to bolt up and a custom imput shaft or clutch plate?

    Unfortunately the only way to answer most of these questions is personal trial.

    Hi and welcome to the forum. The BA had a T5 in it as well as the later model DVCT engine so the bell housing from that might fit. A lot of BA XR6Ts have manage to break their T5 and had it replaced with something stronger so there may be a few about.

    Try any of the dedicated Ford wreckers, they may know what fits what and have the bits you need. I have used Ferntree Gully a few times and they seemed pretty easy to get on with.

    Not 100% sure but I think the T5 bell housing should be fine.

    Sump on the FG is different but that was changed due to the k-frame on the FG.

    As for the electrics when you say ignition key does that mean you actually have the steering column? You need to have the PATS ring or you'll have security issues (on steering column with a green plug). The other thing you will have to make sure off is that the CAN comms is not broken or nothing will be happening.

    Pretty sure the AU T5 I6 bell housing has the same bolt pattern as the Barra I6.
    Not sure what allowances, if any, you may need to make for cable clutch.
