I simply refer to a good dictionary for definitions of things ... usually you'll find a GT defined something along the lines of, "a 2 door sports car that has been softened in it's suspension to provide more comfortable longer distance touring." Naturally there is a lot more can be said but that is the crux of it.Quote:

First of all thanks Greg for starting this brilliant thread.
When we talk about GT we confine our comments to the ford side of the equation. We don't own the trade mark GT, so when other brands use the badge it's of no impact on our product or image.
Doesn't matter if it's Ferrari or Kia, we have the Ford GT and the Falcon GT in the main and a host of other models that can carry the GT signature.
I don't have a problem with any of that, but when the blue oval uses the GT brand in relationship to falcon, it is the strongest statement the company can make. They aren't expecting people to be thinking of Kia diminishing the use because along side those two letters is the defining prerequisite that it carries the blue oval.
A Subaru forester GT has no baring or impact on my GTs

Ford has a tradition of use with the GT badge, the strongest internationally being the Ford GT. The GT 40 was a land mark car that to this day gives all GT with a ford linage credibility, but here in this country, it's the brand that has remained pure, in it's always been V8, and it's credited with being the model responsible for the birth of our performance culture in family saloons.
The 67 XR GT, the very first, with a mustang heart, a Bathurst 1,2 caused our competition to follow in a direction they had no intention of going. 4 door rear wheel drive performance for the family man. That's the birth right there. The first GT defines what it is, the rest is evolution.
No coupe back then, this car ended up being such a defining moment that the current range of XR performance falcons serve as a continuing tribute to this place in time.
If that car hadn't happened, there would be no XR falcons today, no tickford, no t series no FPV.
We would have something different maybe better, maybe worse but different.
I like what I grew up with and I will die of shock if ford don't end as it started in terms of thoughtful tribute.
That won't stop the individual GT eras from feeling they have the best GT, or GTs made by tickford or FPV are a lesser GT.
When cars are defined by impact, shaped direction, harnessed emotion and passion, they have in my mind earned their place. The owners, in some cases, need an injection to make them closer resemble what the last 45 years plus has really been about.
Johnson/Bowe won Bathurst in an EB, it didn't have a GT badge on it, does that have any significance on the model??
Apologies for yet another thread mine, sorry I've only just found the place and had a good look around.
The EL for me has always been "my" GT - I tossed up buying a few other things including a T3, BA, BF GT etc but none were ever going to fill the want that I had for an EL. Yuo either love them or hate them (guess which one I am) and for the most part I have found that the reception so far has been positive. You're always going to get the usual chrome bumper crowd rubbishing it but who cares, I like the fact not many people know what mine is compared to "another" X series GT.
Besides, who buys a car like this and then worries about what others think? If I did that I would have bought a Clubby!
Nice to see you here mate, I’ve always had a soft spot for the EL GT as well, they have a lot of uniqueness about them, in and out, oh and that lovely winsdor note that you can’t go wrong with.Quote:
