Who are we to say whats a GT and what isn't?

We all have our preferences, but if the factory calls it a GT then its a GT.

In hindsight its a real pity Ford didn't do more during the life of V8SC's to brand their racecars Falcon GT's as opposed to just Falcons... and use that nomenclature and reference throughout all communications...

Merc have been smart enough to call their cars E63 and not just E Class.

This is obviously right. Ford decide what is a GT and what isn't but I guess like some laws, people don't necessarily agree as you say.

I would have loved a real GT, and for me that would have been an XW or XY and lately I have taken a shine to the XA.

Like the cars of that period, the company was proud and strong.

I think youve hit the nail on the head. In the 70's Ford was a loud proud company with brutal road cars and massive racing success. People identify with that dominance and passion and associate it with the cars from that period. Next time you're i. Melb I'll try to pick you up from the airport in my mates Phase 3, you'll get an appreciaton for the cars and how people relate to them and you once you spend time in one..!

That said, the B series Falcon was the most successful Falcon in terms of racing, was it not?

The classic GTs XR-XB will always be held in higher regard because of their racing pedigree.

The modern GTs EB-FG are also special vehicles, they represent the best ford had to offer at that particular time.

My heart will always lean toward the classics, but I wouldn't mind picking up one of the last GTs.

    I guess I just love'm all!

And this is why very little can be done by Ford to ruin the classic GTs in terms of actions and diminishing returns.

The classics are, were immune simply because they are linked to racing, where as the modern era isn't

The distinction is the racing pedigree

Ford cant ruin the classics, their place and status is locking in stone for ever, as I said, its such a shame ford never used the GT name for V8SC's and that we didn't maintain some form of homologation system.

Imagine what a GT or GTS would be today if they did....

I think time will heal some of this as Aussie built will become the rare and unusual rather than the current steel vs chrome bumper. I remember when I was a kid in the 70's, 1948 was the dividing line between cool cars and daily's.

There would also unlikely to be best resto type awards for an FG or even a BF Cobra.

That said there will always be rankings within this new league and like it or not the XY ph3 is top of the heap.
The problem with society today, is that nobody drinks from the skulls of their enemies anymore.
