Quarter mile/standing 400 metre times for an EL GT

Lynton, yeap it was the first of the BA Mk2 6 speed manuals. It was 13.99 from memory so only just getting in there by a bees dick.
The BA Mk2 XR8 auto was still a mid 14 seconder using the old 4 speed.

Lol @ tex ;) Fighting over fractions of seconds here mate! At this point it’s not about testing the cars. It’s about testing the knowledge recall of fellow Ford enthusiasts.

got to love how all GT's are related back to the GTHO's performance figures all the time.... there is a really good article on the EL GT called Project 64. I recommend anyone who thinks the EL was lame to read it. Howard Marsden who was in charge of the GTHO skunk works was in charge of the ELGT. He clearly says that they didnt intend to go down a horse power war. They put alot of attention to detail into the chassis/handling. 14.9 sec 1/4 isnt too shabby though.

Fact ... the T3 was the first car Ford (FTE) built in over 30 years that went 14 secs from factory. That's why I don't believe any of the "anniversary" GTs were deserving of the badge. In fact I have more admiration for an EB XR8 Sprint as the best performance Falcon produced between the old school muscle GTs and the T3.

On another front I don't remember any GTs ever running quicker than 14.3 in road tests but I could be suffering alzymers again. I believe the E38/E49 Chargers were the quickest cars in the day.

Err the time @ Kwinana was recorded in a stock EL GT, no flash tune, no fancy overheads, just good ole fashioned, "give it heaps". Still waiting on the T1 & T2 tarted up taxi et's!!!:o

And I think that was basically it. HSV pulled a trump card at the time with a 'big' 215kw stroker in the VR GTS which rendered the EB and EL's straight line performance dull by comparison. Sadly, it meant the 1/4 mile time dominated everything else and ignored everything else the E series GT's offered. They had some pretty nice gear in them, that you couldn't get in any other Falcon at the time, whereas the GTS was just another tarted up Commodore with a stroker motor.

Lol, funny how the tables are turned. That's how most HSV/Holden fans see the current GT's these days....a tarted up Falcon with a ripper supercharged motor where as their GTS's has all the fruit.

Just curious, do you include the Cobra Rspec 4 Door? Anniversary Model GT? & 40 th Anniversary GT model in your angst with "Anniversary GT's" that don't deserve the GT Badge? I never saw an original Cobra GT, especially a 4 door car. I am not too sure on the 40th Anniversary Model GT, some unkind people referred to it as a "sticker & decal " package. Yes we agree the XR8 Sprint is a very good car, however the Sprint had alot less engine development than the EL GT, that curiously only put out 8more kilowatts than the Sprint engine.:confused:

The claimed difference was 230-235 kilowatts as against 200 kilowatts, plus $6k difference in price. A T3 Stroker engine in the EL GT would be a quite interesting car to drive!!!:cool:
