    fg zf box question

I have been told not to downshift in manual mode on my 6sp auto fg cause it stuffs them.
Is this true or just more bull about these boxes?

    Hi Mate, and welcome.

You've been misinformed. I downshift manually all the time in my two ZF 6 Speed cars (one not a Falcon), and they're both going strong. I did the same thing with a 4 Speed equipped Territory, and my EF, and the EF at least is fine. They wouldn't have included the feature if they didn't want you to use it.

One thing I have been doing with my BF, is either dropping it into first manually, or forcing it to start in second - I'm a bit over the coast to stop in second, and then BANG First to take off in. My EF drops to First at about 25 Kms/Hr. Why the ZF doesn't, I'll never know.

If im on a 'spirited' drive i always shift manually in my ZF. To date no issues. Well i lie, the only issue i have is that i hit the limited before i get time to change up gears!

Paxton, i agree, the coast to stop, or the need to dead stop and wait before first is selected annoys the crap out of me. Especially if your coming to an intersection that has a slight incline and your halfway out and then it decides it wants 1st gear.

Shits me to tears. Not what I expected from the 'Best Gearbox in the world'. My 20 year old Falcon doesn't do it, but the 5 year old one, with the new box does...

I think it's because its much shorter than what your 4sp is. Second gear in the ZF is the same as first in the 4sp non sport models in any bseries.

They should allow it at least in performance mode.
