“…The lies (Western slander) which well-meaning zeal has heaped round this man are disgraceful to ourselves only…How one man single-handedly, could weld warring tribes and wandering Bedouins into a most powerful and civilized nation in less than two decades….A silent great soul, one of that who cannot but be earnest. Don't get me wrong guys, I think Ford did a nice job with FG but if Ford was to raise the waist line just a fraction,
and increase the wheelbase just a smidge, Ford would achieve the same as VE without the slab sided look.
Balance and proportion are everything in styling and after six years, Holden is now trying to soften the styling with VF
so in essence that are coming back to FG II roundness just as Falcon sets of on a bolder look, this could get interesting...
Youssef, you summed it up well and I know that Mario is very attached to FG, they were quite literally for a time, his babies
and seeing the cars close up day after day goive us a greater appreciation of what Ford achieved evolving from BF.
I'm still amazed at how small styling changes can have such a huge effect on the looks, something that can be easily over done.
That there is what Ford needs to get right - I'm not sure what everyone thinks of the FG2 front but I don't think it blends well with FG's silhouette. Whatever form FH takes "balance and proportion" must not be spot on. I'm sure they can make it work.Originally Posted by jpd80

If memory serves, prior to AU's release there was also a fair amount of enthusiasm from Ford about the AU... Then, I remember I saw the first scoop shown on the cover of one of the magazines... I showed my mate at TAFE who was also a Ford fan, his response was "no, that's not it, that's just the camo and disguise". I pointed out there was no cammo and no disguise and that this is it.
Dave, yes. The FG1's design in general, bumper to bumper, had a lot of cohesion. The only gripes I've had about FG were/are the XT's frontal boring treatment, and the lack of flair, detail and aggression in the rear bumper on XR, although that's not such a big deal. However the inverted trapezoidal grille on the Mk2 has these sharp corners that just don't fit in with FG's tempo and theme. Mostly it's the tempo and theme of the headlights that are saying one thing, and the new grille going off in a completely different direction. Falcon eyes, with a fish mouth. It's not working, not for me.
I also criticized VE2 for not having enough differentiation but in hindsight those very subtle changes did enhance the look. The criticism was that VE2 didn't bring about as much change as FG2 did, but, I see now how less can be more.
When we first saw FG2 I think I mentioned the biggest winner from the update was the XT, and I still hold that view. The rest, well, I reckon the change was just for the sake of change. I concede that being the direction that previews what's to come it is required to set the scene, but on the other hand if FH is to be such a breakaway from the current Falcon then is such a preview required, especially when it's not done properly?
If the execution on FG2 is any indication of what's to come then I'm nervous.
Last but not least, the FG1 G6ET may well be the best looking Falcon for a long time to come.
