'05 XR6 aftermarket PWR transmission oil cooler questions.

    Hi mates!

Just bought my first car and now I'm the (very) happy third owner of a fantastic condition, non-abused '05 XR6 (BA MKII, non turbo, 4 speed). It's a joy to drive & I want to keep it running smooth for as long as possible- but I have been reading about the coolant & transmission oil mixing on some of them and it's got me a bit worried.

I'm wondering how often does this happen? Is it due to being thrashed or do they simply wear out with age and mix eventually, regardless of how well the car is treated?

At what KM's do they generally start mixing? Mine is at 187,000 now.

I've been looking at buying one of these PWR transmission oil coolers- has anyone had any firsthand experience with one? I'd happily pay $250 for a preventative measure. Really don't want to be replacing the gearbox.

A side question I also had was what is the best interval to service these at? I read somewhere every 10,000KM's- is that about right?

    Cheers guys,

    dan

There is multiple reasons why this happened. Some were poor hose clips. There was vibration. Personally I think it's mainly poor maintenance of the cooling system. I always change it every 2 years. Folks bf has had the same one for 10 years.

In terms of frequency of failures due to the multiple issues they can stem early on or later down the track.

Are these good? I'm planing on changing my heat exchanger on my turbo with a pwr one. To me they are one of the aftermarket mobs that make quality products.

In terms of servicing the 4 speed I use to do it every 40000ks. Oil is cheap and they're a tuff unit that run really well when serviced regularly. You can tell when the oil is getting a bit old (you should never have a delay going from reverse to drive).

Awesome thanks for that info. Also glad the company is good- ordered one and will see how it goes when it gets here. I'll post back my experience/verdict/result of the cooling system once installed!

A bit late but got the system installed. Works great & is worth the money for peace of mind.
