A potential lifeline if they are supporting a specialty build niche product like a Walkinshaw converted model (for example). This would require Supercars to rush through the lowering of the roll cage to allow two doors to complete. Walkinshaw could then develop a Camaro or Dodge Challenger version and supply them to any team that wanted to run them.

"IF" you wanted to just run something different to everyone else and weren't looking for Factory support then yep, its possible under Gen3 regs to do that.

GM want out of RHD markets so no good asking them for money.

The problem then is assuming you go it alone Camaro will be irrelevant come 2021 and it's being discontinued in 2022.

So why bother unless the Factory wants to showcase it and support you.

WAU have their own deal moving forward with allegedly BMW, their focus will be there.

    Dodge is possible?

It was a very sad day. But the only industry that get the govt support is Coal.

Not that I think the govt support would have saved Holden. But may have slowed the process. GM is a basket case. It's been closing and selling off bits for decade. It's closed, Hummer, Oldsmobile, Pontiac, Saab and Buick only survived because it's popular in China. And as we are all aware, GM has also sold off The Opel/ Vauxhall operations to PSA. Holden was offered as a part of that deal, and PSA didnt want it. The Holden folk probably knew they were in trouble at that point.

The 64 Billion dollar question is, will GM itself survive the next decade??

Ok, don't beat around the bush, tell us how you really feel.....

I have had a small amount of amusement calling known associates who are rusted on holden bogans and put shit on Ford when FPV shut in 2014 and Falcon finished in 2016 while waxing lyrical over the commodore and HSV. They all seem somewhat less effusive all of a sudden.

I suspect V8SC is a walking corpse. Its entire premise was Holden vs Ford with every attempt to introduce other marques ending lukewarmly at best.

Maybe (hopefully) a series based on something like the 12 hour with actual production cars may emerge from the ashes.

Like the old days where there were classes and while the Audi R8s and Porsche GTs are way out in front the Stinger and Mustang dual mid field or the Toyota 86 and Hyundai R30 further back will draw an audience from the people who are car enthusiasts rather than "race car" enthusiasts.

    Very clear thoughts M.

I've got to say that you're spot on though. From day 1 of the "Australian Car", Holden, has been lies and exaggerations. What made a GM product built in Fishermans bend in 1948 more Australian than Ford product built in Geelong in 1925? Or the Australian concept of the Coupe' Utility?

That would be good, I've long been an advocate of more production based racing, less wings etc. Ideally without the mid engine super-cars, but I am not sure how you'd draw that line.

I've started another thread on this.

GT4 is the closest most adaptable logical formula.

The main road block will be Supercars losing control if they go to an international formula.

It does make me laugh the whole "Holden is Australian and Ford is NOT" argument.

Falcon was pretty much 100% Australian after XA, Australian designed from XR. Commodore was an Opel, screwed together in Australia with Kingswood engines and gearboxes... Then came VL and even the engine was made by someone else.

Just think of the money they flushed away with the Daewoos, and the dithering between Opels and Daweoos for their smaller cars.

For all this doom and gloom, Ford is expanding (and has more, higher paid employees now than it did in the 90s) and GM is walking away. I wonder if Opel (or Vauxhall) will re-appear and try to move in on the small car market, sold through Peugeot dealers.
