They are legal I believe. My Mercedes has airbags all around.

In qld airbags are only legal if factory fitted, or used as helper springs.
You are not allowed to completely replace your springs and shocks with airbags.
As for safe, totallycomes down to the quality of gear used, and the quality of install.
Well I don't know about other states but you certainly can get airbags "engineered" in Vic.
Are they safe? Well assuming they are well made absolutely. If they can hold up a bdouble for a million km. They can hold an xr6. And if the valving is quick enough they can eliminate body roll and make a car safer.
I think almost all high end cars now offer airbags as a part of their standard spec.

Yeah i completely get when engineered for OEM they're awesome, just not sure how they sit from an aftermarket perspective.
